How much liability coverage is enough?

How much liability protection is enough on your renters policy? Most apartment complexes in Texas require a $100,000 of liability coverage for their tenants. If you have a satellite dish, they tend to want $200,000 or more since it could potentially fall and injure someone.

Liability coverage also comes into play when you cause damage to other peoples property. Here’s an example: If you live on the 2nd floor of cause a small fire that damages your apartment and gives your 3rd Floor neighbors apartment smoke damage, liability coverage could shield you from a HUGE financial loss. Also, just think, all of the water used to put out your 2nd story fire will run down to the first floor damaging even more apartments. It may be a prudent decision for some to have $200,000 or more in liability coverage.
